Yakira is an incoming graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley and recipient of the Chancellor’s Fellowship. She is passionate about using design theory and methods to reduce unintended biases in engineering products and education.
She holds a B.S. in materials science and engineering from Northwestern University, where she was Co-President of QuestBridge Scholars Network and a facilitator for the Women in Leadership cohort. Yakira serves as a mentor to first-generation and low-income college students and women in STEM fields. In her free time, she’s on-snow training for freeskiing events or playing with her German Shepherd rescue named Tina Fey.
