Steve Shelton is an entrepreneurial scientist that develops novel energy conversion methods. He started exploring solar energy conversion as an undergraduate at Stanford University before taking a full year to improve his skills as a Fulbright Scholar in the Netherlands. When he returned to the U.S., he completed a doctorate at UC Berkeley to survey the solar energy landscape and build second generation solar cells. Most recently, his experience culminated in the development of a brand new photovoltaic, the polar cell, for sensing and solar energy applications. He founded the startup Ceitta, which operates at Lawrence Berkeley Lab, to bring together a multidisciplinary group of collaborating scientists for this achievement. He uses the technical and interpersonal skills he has developed as a principal investigator to apply creative solutions to emerging technological problems.
